Fall Digital intra-club competiton

The Champaign County Camera Club has continued to meet in person at the Champaign Public Library. This first Digital Club Competition of our academic year was held Monday, October 10th, 2022 and offered three Categories. The Creative/Contemporary category had 17 images submitted; Fauna had 21 images; and Street photography had 10 images. Members were allowed to enter no more than three images per category, and only six images in total. The photographer remained anonymous as images were projected on a screen for all to view while judges assigned point values to each image. Judges also shared their reasons on why they scored certain images as they did.

Our Judges were Fraya Replinger, Brad LaPayne and Martha Willi.

Fraya Replinger is a local artist, born and raised in Urbana. Her first photography class, taken in high school, sparked her passion to pursue fine art photography. Her award winning images capture landscapes, skyscapes, and the great outdoors explored from fresh perspectives to convey her visions of beauty or emotional impact. She is recognized by the Champaign County Camera Club (Best In Show Competitions), PACA (Preservation and Conservation Association), and the Champaign County Fair. Her fine art photography is exhibited at local markets and art shows throughout Illinois and she has pieces on permanent display on the donor wall at Allerton Park and Retreat Center in Monticello, IL.

Brad LaPayne: Brad LaPayne of LaPayne Photography is nationally known for his remarkable panoramic photography, his specialty since 1988.  His panoramic photographs of events in Memorial Stadium and the Assembly Hall are found throughout our local area.  He has shot many nationally important sports events, including the first night game at Wrigley Field (8/8/88), NBA Finals games in Chicago (1991-93 and 1995-97) and six Rose Bowl games (including the most recent).  Some of his skyline photographs have appeared in movies and TV shows (the movie Next of Kin includes a LaPayne photo of the Chicago skyline).  In addition, his portfolio includes a very large selection of magnificent panoramic views taken in national and state parks, especially in the western United States.  His work has been published in many newspapers and magazines, including the NY Times and Time magazine.  To see examples of his work, visit his website: www.lapayne.com.

Martha Willi: Martha Willi received her Bachelors and Masters in Art Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She has retired from years of teaching art at Blue Ridge High School, but is still an active artist using oil and acrylic painting. This is her first time judging for the Champaign County Camera Club!
